Session 9: CHRISTMAS

20 October 2020

John 1:14 (ESV) – And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

This evening’s sharing touched also on the cost that the Father and the Son probably calculated when They first created the world, that there was the very probable possibility that the human race would choose to go their own way, and the price that They would have to pay. So the drawing shows the Father passing the Creation to the Son, for the sacrifice to be made to redeem it.

Title: The Extra Mile
Amazing that this life, He would choose
The light of the world would suffer abuse
To walk the extra mile in our shoes
So that darkness could no longer accuse
The One & Only, Creator of all
Chose to bear the weight of the fall
To bind what is broken and heal what is lame
To comfort the mourning, and cover our shame
From the Father, the Word became flesh
Tiny baby of Christmas creche
Raised up to be the man on the cross
His life to return what through sin we had lost
Oh the Light of the World, full of Truth & Grace
Dwelt among us to live face-to-face
Oh Greatest of loves is the one who pursues
And walked the extra mile in our shoes
So let there be worship of Him, Lord of Glory
Praise to the Lord! The One & Only
Hallelujah! Lord of Glory
Hallelujah! Lord, One & Only

Devotion through the art from John 1:14 (+ John 1:1-5 & Genesis 1:1-3).
When I read the Bible verses above, some Hebrew words immediately came up into my mind.
דִּבֵּר = Word of God
בָּרָא = He created
אוֹר = light
רוּחַ = Spirit
כָּבוֹד = glory
חֵן = grace
אֱמֶת = truth
These words represent Jesus Christ who incarnated by the power of the Spirit, and it is dwelling among His creation, that is the humankind, nature, creatures.
I can not draw all of His creation, so I painted the image of God (human), tree, fish, bird, animals.

Something I read today: God revealed in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached to the Gentiles, believed on in the world, taken up in glory (1Tim 3:16) makes me glad I drew this.

John 1:14 So the Word became human and made His home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen His glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.

When I was thinking about God living among us, I thought of His provision of sunlight, water and air to all of mankind and His creation. God prepared an ideal environment before the creation of man. The shade of yellow represents sunlight and shade of blue represents water and the white intermingling depicts the air around us. His blessed provision rain down on His creation bountifully.

According to Revelation 19:8,
“We are arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.”
We, His creation is made perfect by Jesus coming to dwell among us and we receiving Him into our lives. Privileged to be a child of God and with our status as the princess of the Most High, I stand amazed at His goodness and grace .

John 1:14 – thinking of Jesus, the Word, God, creator, sustainer of the whole universe, all powerful – choosing to set it all aside, subject himself to painful human experience, gently submitting to imperfect human parents and the indignity of learning to walk and talk and grow under their imperfect teaching… with His perfect knowledge, being fully aware that his beloved creation, man, for whom he created a lavish universe and planet to thrill, support and excite – would reject him because of free choice. In spite of knowing this, and the cost to Him to redeem them – loving and desiring us so much that He was willing to bear that cost. Not reluctantly but joyfully… Zeph 3:17 rejoicing over us with singing. Drew a baby – Nail mark on his Palm already… born to die. Willingly. Lovingly. Even joyfully.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:1‭-‬5‭, ‬9‭-‬14 NASB

Was thinking about how Jesus was the Word and he was there at the beginning of creation and how everything was created through him. And then he became flesh, Immanuel, God with us, and we can see His glory. He is the light. So I tried to capture the word Immanuel in white words with a thin black outline to show that he is the light. The people are facing him and looking at his glory. And all around reflecting his glory is his creation.
I mis-spelled the word when I did the art. And someone pointed out that it was missing the word “man”. And that spoke to them. God came to be with man. So I am sharing it here with the spelling mistake and all.
