A light of the world What an amazing thing to be A city set on a hill Sounds beautiful to me
But, try as I might Sometimes my light grows dim A bonfire becomes a flickering flame And the dark world closes in
And I’m scared of the darkness The shadows that fight to snuff out the flame And while I label my light a disappointment The Father calls me by a different name
‘My child’, He calls And lifts the basket under which I’ve hidden He breaks the boulder off my back Once a spot where guilt had ridden
I can’t sustain this light This fire, it can burn me whole ‘Stop relying on your own strength’, The Father says And with that, he soothes me heavy soul
A light is still a light No matter how small The world may just be one person A person whom the Father calls
A light of the world That comes from The Father, not from me A city set on the hill To God, give all the glory
Matthew 5:14-16 – Salt and Light(ESV)
14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
